Six months of war in Ukraine – Please donate!

Yellow wall structure and blue sky in front Shopping centre Redi in Kalasatama, Helsinki, Finland
This yellow wall structure with blue sky looks like the Flag of Ukraine and the holes resemble bullet holes I’ve seen in unpleasant pictures of Ukrainian buildings. It’s only coincidence that this wall is on front of Shopping centre Redi in Kalasatama, Helsinki, Finland

This should be a happy day to all Ukrainians as it probably was a year ago. But it’s not. Today, August 24, is Ukraine’s Independence Day, 31 years since the country broke with the Soviet Union. But today also marks six months after Russia’s February 24 full-scale invasion and the beginning of a new horrible war in Europe.

Six months ago I was deeply shocked when I heard the first news of Russian invasion. I am still shocked. It is just unbelievable that this war is still going on even though many experts were saying that it’s not going to be quickly over. Even though this blog is about architecture and architectural photography, I felt like I have to write something about this heartbreaking situation.

So, what can we do to help Ukrainians? Donate! I have done it too. You can donate to Red Cross, Unicef, Finn Church Aid, and many others. Important thing is that you act now if you haven’t done so already.

Слава Україні!
