About

Lucas Blair Simpson, senior producer and photographer at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, says about my images: “Very strong POV. I know right away these images are from the same person. Very nice use of composition. The three images are of different subject matter but work together and display strong understanding of composition, light/shadow, and color but each in its distinct way. I want to see more!”

Welcome to my portfolio site. I’m Pekka, an architectural photographer from Helsinki, Finland. I work everywhere my clients need me to. I’ve been hired on assignments in Finland, Sweden, Estonia and Latvia. Just drop me a line!

I was passionate about both photography and architecture in high school – in fact, these were the two career choices I had. In the end, photography won and I became a photographer. My deep interest in architecture remained, and nowadays I’m a professional architectural and event photographer.

I think and follow light all the time. When I’m working with my camera. When I’m walking the dog. When I’m laying on a couch in the living room. Light changes slowly and it changes fast. I love to observe how there are countless different scenarios of light and illumination. In the buildings. In the nature. Everywhere. The weather changes all the time. Or the weather stays the same for days or weeks. I find it interesting.

Light sculpts a building. As Chris McVoy, partner-in-charge in Steven Holl Architects states, “The primary building material is light.” I live in Finland where light changes very much. Everything is different in the winter when snow works as a massive reflector and lights buildings completely different way than in the summer. In the winter the Sun stays low in the sky. The light is exceptionally beautiful.

I’m glad you found your way here. Please feel free to check out my portfolio here.
